If your favorite chair is made of leather, try to avoid exposing it to direct sunlight. Over time, this could lead to cracking and splitting. Even a relatively short period of exposure can have your recliner looking like it’s been sitting in your living room for 30 years.
Make sure you wipe of dust on a regular basis – you can even use a vacuum attachment if you like. Clean up any spills as quickly as you can and apply some leather conditioner once in a while to help it keep its sheen. Before you do this, however, you need to look at the manufacturer’s care instructions to make sure the conditioner won’t cause harm. If you’re still not sure if the product you’re using is safe, dab a little bit on an inconspicuous area to make sure it doesn’t do any damage.
Your recliner may be made of microfiber. If this is the case, then it should be a breeze to clean and maintain. Because this material repels water, all you need to do is wipe off any spills with a soft cloth. When it comes to using cleaning solutions, however, make sure you use the right one. For example, some types of microfiber material should only be cleaned with water-based products, while others will be fine if you use solvent-based cleaners.
Either wax or polish the surface regularly to keep it looking great. Spray any cleaning products you use on a cloth first to reduce the chances of scratching. For a more thorough cleaning, use water and mild soap. Again, test it on an out-of-sight area first to make sure no damage will occur.
No matter what type of material your chair is made of, you can reduce the chances of dust and damage even further by using slipcovers. You can use different designs to change the look in whatever manner you want.
